A 15-Year Prison Sentence for Lincoln Park Carjacker

In a recent development, a man named Noah Sidney, aged 20, has been handed a 15-year prison sentence for his involvement in a carjacking incident targeting a Lincoln Park resident back in October 2023. The incident took place around 7 p.m. in the 2200 block of North Seminary, where Sidney approached a 31-year-old man unloading groceries from his Audi Q3. Displaying a firearm, Sidney demanded the victim’s keys, wallet, and phone before making off with the car.

Unbeknownst to Sidney, law enforcement was actively engaged in anti-carjacking operations that night, with a U.S. Customs and Border Protection helicopter assisting Chicago police and state troopers.

Upon learning that the victim’s hijacked car contained two AirTags, Chicago police initiated tracking efforts and shared the location data with the helicopter. The aerial unit swiftly located the Audi and provided real-time updates to ground units, facilitating the apprehension of Sidney when the vehicle came to a stop in the 4700 block of South Martin Luther King Drive, thanks to the intervention of an Illinois State Police trooper.

Alderman Brian Hopkins (2nd) commended the Illinois State Police for their role in the arrest, praising their pursuit tactics in apprehending the armed carjacker on the Dan Ryan Expressway.

Following Sidney’s guilty plea to aggravated vehicular hijacking with a weapon, Judge Angela Munari-Petrone imposed a 15-year sentence, with Sidney required to serve at least half of the term before becoming eligible for release.

The Audi was successfully returned to its rightful owner, bringing a sense of closure to the harrowing ordeal.
