A Man Sentenced to 15 Years in Prison for Robbing Subway Sandwich Shops

A 32-year-old man named Nicholas Wardford has been sentenced to 15 years in prison after pleading guilty to a series of robberies at Subway sandwich shops in downtown Chicago and in Melrose Park.

Wardford has admitted to committing five robberies so far, with one more case still pending resolution.

One of the incidents occurred on July 15, 2023, at the Subway located at 1232 South Canal. Wardford entered the store, grabbed a drink from the refrigerator, and then proceeded to the register. He brandished a gun, struck the cashier with it, and stole money from the register.

Just three days later, Wardford targeted the Subway at 604 South Wabash. After selecting a drink, he approached the cashier and demanded money at gunpoint when they opened the register.

On July 29, Wardford struck again, this time at a Subway restaurant on West North Avenue in Melrose Park. He was apprehended by Forest Park police later that day after being spotted with a firearm at a 7-Eleven store.

In addition to these incidents, Wardford was also charged with robbing the Canal Street location on June 25, 2023.

Two judges presided over Wardford’s sentencing. Judge Mary Margaret Brosnahan handed down three concurrent 15-year sentences for the city robberies, while Judge Eulalia De La Rosa imposed a concurrent 15-year term for the Melrose Park case.

Wardford will be eligible for release after serving half of his 15-year sentence.
