A tragic incident unfolded in Virginia when a homeowner shot and killed a three-sport high school athlete, Michael Bosworth Jr., after the teenager and his friends played a prank known as “ding dong ditch” on the shooter’s door. The incident occurred early Saturday in Fredericksburg, leading to the arrest of 27-year-old Tyler Chase Butler.
The initial report by the Spotsylvania County Sheriff’s Office suggested an attempted burglary, but it was later revealed that the teenagers were filming a TikTok prank. Despite Butler’s claims of self-defense, one of the teens was injured while seeking a hiding spot after gunshots were fired.
Both the injured teen and a third companion confirmed that they were engaging in harmless mischief by playing “ding dong ditch.” Bosworth, a talented athlete from Massaponax High School, was fatally shot on the day of his high school prom, where he was set to attend later that evening.
Butler now faces charges of second-degree murder, malicious wounding, and firearm-related felonies. He is currently held at Rappahannock Regional Jail without bond.
