Our Legacy’s Collaboration with Emporio Armani: A Fusion of North and South
Our Legacy, a Swedish brand with deep Italian roots, recently unveiled its second collaboration with Emporio Armani. The creative director, Cristopher Nying, along with co-founder Jockum Hallin and the OL team, spent time in Pantelleria to shoot the collection, which now includes womenswear.
The collaboration between the two brands began in late 2023 with the first offering, but this new spring collection takes it a step further with a focus on fabric development. Hallin explains, “The first time around we kind of dug in the Emporio Armani archive and then we tried to find things that resembled what we found in our deadstock piles.” This time, OL Work Shop replicated Emporio Armani fabrics or used limited yardage from the Italian brand. This aligns perfectly with OL Work Shop’s ethos of working with what’s available. Standout materials in the collection include a textural linen and a pink floral warp-print taffeta.
Nying highlights the differences in designing for women compared to menswear, noting that while women’s fashion seems different for Giorgio Armani, it aligns with Our Legacy’s aesthetic. The collection features Eastern influences with kimono coats and lapel-less jackets, paying homage to Giorgio Armani’s work. Cat prints on T-shirts reflect the Italian designer’s love for felines, while shadowy plaids and pinstripes add OL elements to the mix.
The color palette is neutral, and the silhouettes are long and fluid, capturing a relaxed island vibe. Nying’s focus on Armani’s “soft language” resulted in what he calls “collapsed tailoring.” The overall vibe of the collection is about dressing elegantly yet comfortably, blending the best of both brands.
The collaboration between Our Legacy and Emporio Armani is a seamless fusion of North and South, bringing together the history and elegance of Giorgio Armani with the contemporary vision of Our Legacy. The collection is a testament to the power of collaboration and the beauty of combining different perspectives to create something truly unique.
