Mitsubishi Motors Partners with Foxconn for Electric Vehicle Development

Japanese automaker Mitsubishi Motors is currently in discussions with Foxconn’s electric vehicle division to collaborate on the development of an OEM electric car model. The plan is for this electric vehicle to be sold in Australia and New Zealand in the latter half of 2026.

Mitsubishi recently announced that they have signed a memorandum of understanding with Foxtron Vehicle Technology, a joint venture between Foxconn and Yulon Motor Co based in Taiwan. Yulon Motor Co is known for assembling and manufacturing cars for Nissan, adding a strong automotive background to this partnership.

Furthermore, Mitsubishi and Nissan are leveraging their existing three-way alliance with Renault to expand their electric vehicle offerings in different regions. In North America, Mitsubishi will introduce a rebadged version of the popular Nissan Leaf electric car in the second half of 2026. Similarly, Nissan will offer a rebranded plug-in hybrid electric vehicle model produced by Mitsubishi in the same market.

For the European market, Mitsubishi also plans to sell rebranded electric vehicle models manufactured by Renault, further strengthening their presence in the EV market.
