NFL insider goes scorched earth on Steelers trading George Pickens

The Pittsburgh Steelers made headlines on Wednesday morning as star wide receiver George Pickens was traded to the Dallas Cowboys in exchange for draft picks. This move came as a surprise to many, but it was not the only news to shake up the NFL world. NFL insider Matt Miller boldly proclaimed that this current Steelers roster is the worst of the Mike Tomlin era.

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Pickens and a 2027 sixth-round pick will be heading to Dallas in exchange for a 2026 third-round pick and a 2027 fifth-round pick. This trade signifies a significant shift in the Steelers’ offensive lineup, especially with the recent addition of superstar wide receiver DK Metcalf from the Seattle Seahawks.

With Metcalf now leading the receiving corps, questions arise about the Steelers’ playoff prospects in the upcoming 2025 season. The team has made some intriguing moves in the offseason, drafting QB Will Howard from Ohio State and running back Kaleb Johnson from Iowa. While Howard may not start immediately, rumors of Aaron Rodgers joining the Steelers continue to swirl.

Despite the changes in the roster, the Steelers still boast one of the best defensive units in the NFL, a top-tier head coach in Mike Tomlin, and a dynamic offensive duo in Metcalf and Johnson. While Pickens’ departure is significant, it may be premature to label this Steelers roster as the worst under Tomlin’s tenure.

As the season approaches, all eyes will be on Pittsburgh to see how they navigate these changes and strive for a playoff berth. With a mix of seasoned veterans and promising young talent, the Steelers have the potential to surprise critics and make a strong push for the postseason.

In conclusion, while the trade of George Pickens may have raised some eyebrows, the Steelers remain a team to watch in the upcoming season. With a blend of experience and potential, Pittsburgh has the tools to compete at a high level and prove their doubters wrong. Stay tuned for more updates as the NFL season unfolds.
