The Oamaru police are currently investigating three serious and unsettling violent incidents that occurred within a span of 24 hours. They have managed to arrest one suspect in connection to these incidents.

Sergeant Tony Woodbridge emphasized the importance of the public’s role in the arrest. The individuals involved in these incidents are believed to be acquainted with each other. Two of the incidents involved intruders entering residential properties.

The first incident took place at Queens Crescent around 11:45 pm, where one person was assaulted. The second incident occurred at a property on Thames Highway at 4 am, resulting in another assault. Both victims sustained moderate injuries and were taken to the hospital.

Later in the day at 4:20 pm, a serious assault occurred at Centennial Park in Oamaru, where a woman was knocked unconscious. A white station wagon intervened by driving at the offender and subsequently ramming a black Subaru Legacy. The victim then got into the station wagon, which left the scene with her.

Sergeant Woodbridge mentioned that the third incident took place in a crowded area near Centennial Park, where hockey games were being played. The police are seeking witnesses or anyone who may have captured footage of the assault or the vehicles involved leaving the scene.

Police have arrested a 27-year-old Oamaru man in connection to these incidents. He faces charges including breaching release conditions, assault with intent to injure, wounding with intent to commit grievous bodily harm, and burglary.

Sergeant Woodbridge reassured the community that these violent incidents were not random acts and that efforts are being made to hold the perpetrators accountable. The motive behind the offenses is still under investigation, and the police are actively looking for other individuals involved.

The police expressed gratitude to the public for their cooperation and urged anyone with information to come forward. They are especially interested in hearing from witnesses or individuals who may have valuable information regarding the incidents.
