ServiceNow Acquires Data.World to Enhance AI Capabilities

Enterprise workflow management platform ServiceNow has announced its second AI-related acquisition this year. The company has signed a definitive agreement to acquire Data.World, a cloud-native data catalog and data governance platform based in Austin, Texas. Data.World, founded in 2015, has previously raised over $130 million in venture financing from prominent firms such as Alumni Ventures, Prologis Ventures, and Shasta Ventures.

The terms of the deal were not disclosed, but Data.World was valued at $350 million in its recent $50 million Series C round in 2022. Gaurav Rewari, SVP and GM of data analytics at ServiceNow, stated that the company was seeking partners to help customers deploy AI at scale and prepare their data for AI applications.

According to Rewari, the addition of Data.World’s data governance tools will enable ServiceNow customers to optimize their AI agents and other forms of AI automation. Data.World’s platform allows enterprises to organize and search through their data effectively, making it a valuable addition to ServiceNow’s product portfolio.

Once the deal is finalized, Data.World will be integrated into ServiceNow, with its platform becoming available to ServiceNow customers in the near future. This acquisition aligns with ServiceNow’s strategy to embrace agentic AI and enhance its capabilities in AI automation.

This acquisition follows ServiceNow’s agreement to acquire Moveworks in March, a company specializing in enterprise-focused automation and AI tools, for $2.85 billion. These acquisitions reflect ServiceNow’s commitment to building and buying capabilities to support its transition to agentic AI.

Philip Kirk, ServiceNow’s SVP of corporate business development, emphasized the company’s focus on making decisions that benefit its customers in the long term and differentiate ServiceNow in enterprise automation. The company aims to leverage its expertise in automation to drive innovation in AI technologies.

ServiceNow’s strategic acquisitions and focus on AI demonstrate its commitment to providing cutting-edge solutions to its customers. By integrating Data.World’s platform into its offerings, ServiceNow is poised to enhance its AI capabilities and deliver value to businesses seeking to leverage AI for improved efficiency and decision-making.
