Eastern Star Masonic Retirement Community in Denver to be Sold Following Explosion

Trustees of the Eastern Star Masonic Retirement Community in southeast Denver have announced plans to sell the property following an explosion that occurred earlier this spring. The decision, which was made public on Facebook, is described as a difficult one that has been in the works for several years.

The announcement comes after a tragic incident on March 12, where an explosion and fire caused by construction workers hitting a power line in the Robert Russell building resulted in critical injuries to at least seven individuals. This event led to the displacement of 87 residents in assisted-living and memory-care units, who have yet to be able to return home as of late April, according to the organization’s social media updates.

In a statement released on Facebook, the Board of Trustees cited various challenges that have impacted the viability of the operation, including decreased occupancy levels due to COVID, rising operational costs, and increased regulations. These factors have put a strain on the community’s ability to continue operating effectively.

Eastern Star officials have initiated the sale process but have not provided a specific timeline for completion. The situation is still developing, and updates may follow as more information becomes available.
