Chennai:

Russian universities have responded to the increasing demand for medical education by adding nearly 2,000 additional seats to accommodate the growing number of students interested in pursuing medical courses. Consul General Valerii Khodzhaev of the Consulate General of the Russian Federation in Chennai made this announcement, highlighting Russia’s reputation for providing high-quality medical education globally.

India continues to choose Russia as the top destination for medical education abroad, with Russian universities now offering 10,000 seats, up from 8,000 in 2024. This increase reflects the rising number of Indian students enrolling in medical programs each year.

Russia is currently the only foreign country fully compliant with the National Medical Commission of India’s latest norms for overseas medical education, further solidifying its appeal to Indian students.

Khodzhaev emphasized Russia’s long history of admitting Indian students to its universities for medical education, highlighting the comprehensive curriculum, experienced faculty, and advanced facilities that provide a conducive learning environment for Indian students.

Alexander Dodonov, Vice Consul and Director of Russian House, mentioned the annual 100% scholarship program offered by the Russian government, granting 200 Indian students the opportunity to pursue various programs at leading Russian universities free of cost. An All-India Russian Education Fair for the academic year 2025-26 is scheduled to take place on May 10 and 11 at the Russian Centre of Science and Culture in Chennai, with similar events planned in Coimbatore, Salem, and Tiruchirappalli.

The fair will showcase science, technology, and engineering institutions offering programs in cutting-edge fields such as biotechnology, artificial intelligence, and data science. Participating institutions include Volgograd State Medical University, Immanuel Kant Baltic Federal University, Kazan State Medical University, National Research Nuclear University, Moscow Aviation Institute, and Moscow State Regional University.
