Washington:

US Congressman Ro Khanna has urged Pakistan not to retaliate following India’s ‘Operation Sindoor’ that targeted multiple terror camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (POK) on May 7. Khanna emphasized the need for de-escalation between the two nuclear-armed nations, which have been facing increased tension since the Pahalgam terror attack on April 22.

During an interview with CNN, Khanna stressed the importance of de-escalation in the current situation. He highlighted the terrorist attack in Pahalgam and commended India’s efforts in targeting terrorist networks. Khanna also expressed hope that President Donald Trump’s administration had individuals well-versed in the region’s politics to assist in resolving the India-Pakistan conflict.

Khanna referred to Pakistan Army chief Asim Munir as a dictator, criticizing the lack of honest voices in Pakistan. He called for the release of former Prime Minister Imran Khan and advised against any retaliatory actions by Pakistan.

Highlighting the need for fair elections in Pakistan, Khanna emphasized the importance of international pressure on Pakistan to ensure a democratic process. He mentioned the leverage the international community has with Pakistan through financial assistance, urging for the release of Imran Khan and cessation of any retaliatory measures.

Following India’s missile strikes on terror targets in Pakistan and POK, the Pakistan Army conducted heavy shelling on villages along the Line of Control in Jammu and Kashmir, resulting in civilian casualties and injuries.

The cross-border shelling led to casualties in Poonch district, with several individuals in critical condition. Khanna’s statements underscore the urgency of de-escalation and diplomatic intervention to prevent further escalation of tensions between India and Pakistan.
