Judge Allows Bryan Kohberger’s Family to Attend Quadruple-Murder Trial

A judge ruled that Bryan Kohberger’s immediate family members can attend his upcoming quadruple-murder trial, even if they are potential witnesses. The decision was made public on Thursday.

While witnesses are sometimes excluded to prevent influencing their testimony, Judge Steven Hippler emphasized Kohberger’s right to a public trial, allowing his parents and siblings to attend if they wish.

Kohberger, a former graduate student, faces charges in the stabbing deaths of four University of Idaho students. If convicted, prosecutors plan to seek the death penalty.

Judge Hippler highlighted the balance between Kohberger’s public trial rights and the state’s need for truthful witness testimony.

While acknowledging the risk of potential witness influence, Judge Hippler noted that Kohberger’s family members have limited testimony scope and previously provided recorded interviews to maintain integrity.

Prior to this ruling, the judge allowed family members of the victims to attend the trial.
