President Donald Trump was visibly surprised during a press conference on Wednesday when asked about reports of his administration planning to deport immigrants to Libya. This comes despite earlier reports from CNN citing unnamed sources that discussed the possibility of transporting asylum-seekers to Libya. Trump’s response, “I don’t know, you’ll have to ask Homeland Security, please,” left many critics questioning his awareness and leadership.

The lack of clarity on the issue raised concerns, especially given Libya’s ongoing armed conflict and human rights violations. U.S. District Judge Brian E. Murphy reinforced the need for migrants to have the opportunity to argue against deportation to countries where their safety could be at risk.

Criticism of Trump’s response flooded social media, with many pointing out the irony of his previous accusations against former President Joe Biden for similar lapses in awareness. The public expects transparency and accountability in migration policies, not vague answers that fuel distrust.

Overall, the incident underscores the importance of a president being fully informed about their administration’s actions, especially when it comes to sensitive issues like immigration and deportation.
