Arsenal have reportedly secured a deal with Real Sociedad midfielder Martin Zubimendi, beating out competition from Liverpool and Real Madrid. The Spanish midfielder has been on the Gunners’ radar for some time now, and it seems like he will be their first signing of the summer transfer window.

According to renowned journalist Fabrizio Romano, Arsenal have reached an agreement with Zubimendi and are willing to pay his €60 million release clause. The 26-year-old is set to sign a long-term contract at the Emirates Stadium once all formalities are completed in the coming weeks.

Zubimendi was on the verge of a move to the Premier League last summer, with Liverpool having a deal in place with Real Sociedad. However, the midfielder opted to stay at San Sebastian for another season. Real Madrid also entered the race for his signature earlier this year but failed to reach an agreement with the player or the club.

The arrival of Zubimendi at Arsenal will see him replace veteran midfielder Jorginho, who is set to depart for Flamengo once his contract expires next month. He will reunite with former teammates Mikel Merino and Martin Odegaard, who also made the switch from Real Sociedad to Arsenal.

Having made 44 appearances across all competitions for Real Sociedad this season, scoring two goals and providing an assist, Zubimendi will bring creativity and energy to the Gunners’ midfield. Arsenal may still look to add another midfielder to their ranks if they cannot reach an agreement with Thomas Partey on a new contract.

In other transfer news, Arsenal and Liverpool have reportedly enquired about Real Madrid forward Rodrygo. The Brazilian is said to be considering his future at the Santiago Bernabeu, with a move away from the Spanish giants a possibility this summer. The 24-year-old has attracted interest from several top clubs, including Manchester City, and is valued at around €100 million.

Rodrygo, who has often played second fiddle to Vinicius Jr and Kylian Mbappe at Real Madrid, is seeking a more prominent role elsewhere. With three league titles, two Copa del Rey, and two UEFA Champions League titles under his belt, the former Santos prodigy could opt for a move to the Premier League.

Overall, Arsenal’s capture of Martin Zubimendi and their interest in Rodrygo signal their intent to strengthen their squad ahead of the new season. With these potential signings, the Gunners could be gearing up for a successful campaign under manager Mikel Arteta.
