Trump’s Border Promises: A Mixed Bag of Reality
President Trump continues to assert his commitment to border security, claiming a staggering 99 percent reduction in illegal crossings. This figure, however, is juxtaposed with the legacy of former President Biden, whose tenure allegedly paved the way for millions of undocumented immigrants currently residing in the U.S. The daunting task of deportation looms large, complicated further by judicial interventions that seem to favor humanitarian concerns over strict enforcement.
A High-Speed Chase: Texas DPS in Action
In a dramatic turn of events, the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) engaged in a high-speed pursuit of a human smuggler in Webb County. The chase involved Ruby Martinez driving a white Chevy Malibu, during which she slowed down to allow one illegal immigrant to escape from the vehicle. Despite her evasive maneuvers, the DPS ultimately executed a Precision Immobilization Technique (PIT) maneuver to bring the chase to a halt, leading to her arrest for human smuggling and evading law enforcement.
Subsequently, one undocumented individual was handed over to the Border Patrol, illustrating the ongoing complexities of immigration enforcement.

Another Smuggling Arrest in Val Verde County
In a separate incident, DPS troopers conducted a traffic stop in Val Verde County, where they arrested two additional human smugglers and discovered two illegal immigrants concealed under a blanket in a Ford F-150. This incident further highlights the ongoing challenges and dangers associated with illegal immigration.

Operation Lone Star: Texas Takes Charge
Texas has positioned itself as a leader in immigration enforcement, actively responding to what it perceives as ongoing federal neglect. Launched in 2021 by Governor Greg Abbott, Operation Lone Star aims to combat the influx of dangerous substances like fentanyl and deter illegal immigration. This initiative, supported by the Texas DPS and the Texas National Guard, embodies the state’s proactive stance amidst federal policy challenges.
Article IV, Section 4 of the United States Constitution explicitly mandates the federal government to protect states from invasion, a responsibility that critics claim was overlooked during Biden’s presidency. The text states that “The United States shall guarantee to every State in this Union a Republican Form of Government, and shall protect each of them against Invasion.” This raises questions about the effectiveness of federal immigration policy and its implications for state-level enforcement actions.
A Return to Rule of Law?
As Texas continues to take matters into its own hands, the narrative around immigration enforcement is evolving. Whether this marks a genuine return to the rule of law or merely a political maneuver remains to be seen. What is clear, however, is that the complexities surrounding immigration will persist, demanding both local and national attention.
