The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is making strides towards completing the 2025 season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) by May 25. With 12 league games left before the playoffs, the cricket board is contemplating the idea of double-headers to expedite the process, as per a report from The Indian Express on Sunday, May 11.

All the IPL franchises, except for Punjab Kings (PBKS), have been instructed to return to their respective venues by Tuesday, May 13. The BCCI is working on a revised schedule to wrap up the 18th edition of the tournament in a timely manner.

It has been reported that the franchises have been directed to inform their foreign players and support staff to reassemble. The overseas players had flown back to their home countries immediately after the tournament was temporarily halted on Friday, May 9, due to tensions between India and Pakistan.

A source within the BCCI, speaking on the condition of anonymity, stated to The Indian Express, “All franchises have been told to inform its team to report to their respective destination by Tuesday. Punjab will have a neutral venue, so their destination is yet to be confirmed. The board is planning to have more double headers so that they can finish the IPL as per its scheduled day.”

IPL governing council chairman Arun Dhumal also mentioned that they will engage in discussions with the Indian government regarding the resumption of the T20 tournament. This decision followed a ceasefire announcement between the two countries on Saturday, May 10. Dhumal stated, “Ceasefire has just been announced. We now explore the possibility of resuming and concluding the IPL. If it is possible to conduct it immediately… We need to work out the venue dates and everything, and we would now be speaking to all the stakeholders, including team owners, broadcasters, and everyone involved and find a way as to how to move forward. Most importantly, we will have to consult with the government.”

The 2025 season was put on hold for a week after the PBKS and Delhi Capitals (DC) match was interrupted midway on May 8 due to floodlight and power failure in Dharamsala.

As the BCCI works towards resuming and completing the IPL season, cricket fans eagerly await the thrilling matches that lie ahead. The coordination and cooperation between all stakeholders will be crucial in ensuring a successful conclusion to the tournament.
