GAFFA, a collective known for their unique blend of humor, irony, and interdisciplinary art forms, recently showcased their exhibition “Level Up” at Kunsthalle Arbon. The exhibition transformed the gallery space into a parking garage, featuring a monumental structure made of orange safety cones and traffic symbols.

Founded by Wanja Harb, Linus Lutz, Dario Forlin, and Lucian Kunz, GAFFA challenges our perceptions of physical space, history, and society through their installations. In “Level Up,” the focus was on traffic symbols and the balance between regulation and chaos.

One of the central pieces in the exhibition was an extra-long stretch limo made entirely of cardboard, accompanied by an entry ticket, orange cone, and directional sign. The scale of the objects created a surreal experience for viewers, reminiscent of an “Alice in Wonderland” adventure.

The gallery described the exhibition as a reflection on underground garages and parking structures, often overlooked in daily life. The aesthetics of these spaces, from the geometry of parking spaces to the arrangement of holes on a parking ticket, were brought to the forefront in GAFFA’s installation.

As viewers navigated the gallery space, they were invited to question the boundaries between art and everyday life. The blend of real-life objects like traffic cones and symbolic representations like the cardboard limo created a thought-provoking experience for visitors.
