The recent weekend shooting outside of Porkchop, located at 6341 North Broadway in Edgewater, has led to the closure of the restaurant by the city. The incident resulted in the deaths of two men and left another man injured. The establishment, along with Meet & Whiskey which shares the same address, were issued a summary closure on Sunday, according to Alderman Leni Manaa-Hoppenworth of the 48th Ward.

The shooting took place around 1:20 a.m. on Saturday, with limited information provided by the Chicago Police Department regarding the incident. Alderman Manaa-Hoppenworth stated that the shooting seemed to be targeted, and as of Monday, no arrests had been made in connection with the case.

Video evidence revealed that the gunman used a stolen Infinity Q50 during the shooting, which was later found burning in the 600 block of East 134th Place. One of the victims, 28-year-old Derrell Givens, sustained fatal gunshot wounds and passed away at St. Francis Hospital despite CPR efforts by CPD officers.

Two other victims, a 31-year-old man who was shot in the chest and later died at Weiss Hospital, and a 36-year-old man in fair condition with a gunshot wound to his back at Evanston Hospital, were also involved in the incident. The identity of the 31-year-old victim has not been disclosed by authorities.

In response to the tragedy, violence interrupters are working to provide support and assistance to the families of the victims, as stated by the alderman.

CWBChicago, established in 2013 by residents of Wrigleyville and Boystown, aims to deliver original public safety reporting with in-depth context and detail in areas like Lincoln Park, River North, The Loop, Uptown, and other North Side neighborhoods. The closure of Porkchop following the violent incident underscores the importance of public safety measures and the devastating impact of gun violence on communities. It is crucial for authorities to investigate the case thoroughly and ensure that justice is served for the victims and their families.
