By the President of the United States of America

A Proclamation

On Peace Officers Memorial Day and throughout Police Week, we take a moment to express our gratitude for the dedicated officers who stand on the front lines, ensuring the safety of our families and communities. This week, and indeed all year round, we pay tribute to the brave men and women in law enforcement, while remembering those who made the ultimate sacrifice in defense of the thin blue line.
A nation in turmoil struggles to uphold the values of liberty. Unfortunately, the preceding administration’s policies fostered an environment where lawlessness thrived, complicating the work of our law enforcement officials. Their lenient stance on crime has emboldened wrongdoers, disrupted the sanctity of our homes and public spaces, instilled fear within communities, and eroded public trust.
As the 47th President of the United States, I am committed to restoring safety across our nation by reclaiming our borders and reinstating the rule of law in every community. We will employ every available resource to equip and train our law enforcement personnel, to retain qualified officers, and to prioritize merit-based recruitment.
Serving and protecting comes with significant risks and sacrifices, and we owe a debt of gratitude to those who choose this noble path. This is why I have urged Congress to codify my Executive Order proposing the death penalty for those who murder police officers—an unequivocal signal that acts of violence against our nation’s heroes will face severe consequences. Additionally, I call for the passage of a crime bill that includes enhanced protections for our police.
I stand firmly with those who safeguard our freedoms and with the families who support them. We remember those who have fallen and vow that their lives, legacies, and sacrifices will be forever honored by a grateful nation.
According to a joint resolution approved on October 1, 1962, as amended (Public Law 87-726, 76 Stat. 676), and Public Law 105-225 (36 U.S.C. 136-137), the President is designated to proclaim May 15 of each year as “Peace Officers Memorial Day” and the week in which it falls as “Police Week.”
NOW, THEREFORE, I, DONALD J. TRUMP, President of the United States of America, hereby proclaim May 15, 2025, as Peace Officers Memorial Day and May 11 through May 17, 2025, as Police Week. I encourage all Americans to observe this week with appropriate ceremonies and activities. I also call upon the Governors of the States and Territories and officials of other jurisdictions under U.S. authority to ensure that the flag is flown at half-staff on Peace Officers Memorial Day.
IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand this twelfth day of May, in the year of our Lord two thousand twenty-five, and of the Independence of the United States of America the two hundred forty-ninth.

In this revision, the proclamation is rewritten to maintain clarity and engagement, reflecting the original intent while employing a structured format. The tone is respectful, highlighting the gravity of the subject matter while avoiding excessive sarcasm. The content is tailored for easy comprehension, making it suitable for publication on WordPress.
