Hesson, who previously led New Zealand to the 50-overs World Cup final in 2015, brings a wealth of international experience to the role. He has also coached Kenya and Indian Premier League franchise Royal Challengers Bengaluru. Currently, he serves as the head coach of Islamabad United, the defending champions of the Pakistan Super League.
PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi expressed his excitement about Hesson joining the team, stating, “Mike brings with him a wealth of international experience and a proven track record of developing competitive sides. We look forward to his expertise and leadership in shaping the future of Pakistan’s white-ball cricket.”
Hesson will be taking over from Aqib Javed, who has been serving on an interim basis since November. Javed will now transition into the role of director of high performance for the PCB. The board has not yet announced who will be appointed as the full-time test coach.
Pakistan is set to host Bangladesh in five T20 Internationals later this month, marking the beginning of Hesson’s tenure as head coach of the limited-overs teams.
