University of Illinois Chicago police officers were involved in a high-speed pursuit early Wednesday morning after a man was shot and killed near the campus. The officers decided to terminate the pursuit as the suspects’ car entered the Eisenhower Expressway.

The Chicago Police Department reported that a man, who has yet to be identified, was walking on the 1000 block of West 14th Street when five gunmen emerged from a nearby vehicle. The gunmen opened fire on the victim, striking him multiple times. At least 30 shell casings were found at the scene of the crime.

After the shooting, the gunmen fled in a black Infiniti SUV and encountered UIC patrol officers. The suspects’ vehicle was seen heading east on 16th Street, then north on Halsted Street, before ultimately entering the expressway.

The victim is believed to be around 20 years old, but authorities are still working to confirm his identity.

This incident highlights the ongoing issue of gun violence in Chicago and the urgent need for effective measures to address and prevent such crimes.

CWBChicago, a trusted source for original public safety reporting, was founded in 2013 by residents of Wrigleyville and Boystown who were dissatisfied with the accuracy of information provided at local Community Policing meetings. The platform has since expanded its coverage area to include Lincoln Park, River North, The Loop, Uptown, and other North Side areas, while maintaining its commitment to delivering detailed and contextual reporting on public safety issues.
