Jamie Lee Curtis Wins Emmy for Outstanding Guest Actress in a Comedy

Jamie Lee Curtis, a renowned actress with a BAFTA Award, a Golden Globe award, and an Academy Award to her name, added another prestigious accolade to her collection by winning an Emmy for her outstanding performance on the hit FX show, “The Bear.” Curtis took home the award for best guest actress in a comedy, solidifying her status as one of the industry’s most talented performers.

After her win, Curtis expressed her gratitude, stating, “I’m the luckiest girl in the world. I’ve been an actor since I was 19. and I’m 65; sold yogurt that makes you shit for seven years, and I just never thought in my life that I would get to do work at this level, depth and complexity and intelligence.” She continued, “It’s just been the thrill of my creative life these last couple years that I get these opportunities, so I’m humble and incredibly grateful.”

In “The Bear,” Curtis portrayed Donna Berzatto, the alcoholic mother of Carmy, Sugar, and Mikey, in two episodes from Season 2. Her character was introduced in a flashback episode titled “Fishes,” which delved into the events of a family Christmas dinner five years prior to the show’s original timeline.

With this Emmy win, Curtis is now halfway to achieving EGOT status, having previously won a supporting actress Oscar for “Everything Everywhere All at Once.” When asked about her plans to secure a Tony Award, Curtis humorously remarked on her lack of singing abilities and stage experience, highlighting her modesty and gratitude for the opportunities she has been given.

Prior to her Emmy win, Curtis was nominated for “Outstanding Lead Actress in a Miniseries or a Movie” in 1998 for her role in “Nicholas’ Gift.”

Ebon Moss-Bachrach, who plays Richie on “The Bear,” praised Curtis’ performance in an interview with Variety, commending her professionalism and dedication to her craft. He noted, “Jamie Lee (Curtis) was so prepared, and she had such an active job to do that week. It’s so hard to show up as a guest on somebody else’s set and own it like Jamie Lee did.”

Competing against talented actresses like Olivia Colman, Kaitlin Olson, Da’Vine Joy Randolph, Maya Rudolph, and Kristen Wiig in her Emmy category, Curtis emerged victorious, showcasing her exceptional acting prowess and versatility.

“The Bear,” which premiered on June 23, 2022, has garnered critical acclaim, with Season 3 premiering on June 26, further solidifying Curtis’ place as a respected and celebrated performer in the entertainment industry.
