Viral outrage over Apple’s EU payment warnings misses key fact

Apple has clarified that the warning messages displayed next to EU App Store listings that use third-party payment systems are not a new addition. Contrary to recent reports, these user-disclosure screens have been live on the EU App Store since the beginning of Apple’s DMA Compliance Plan in March 2024. The messages were not newly added as some had speculated.

The confusion surrounding these warning screens arose from a post on the social network X, which gained traction and led to widespread concern among users and developers. The post showcased a cautionary message displayed next to an app called Instacar, indicating that it did not support Apple’s private and secure payment system and used external purchases instead.

Many speculated that these warnings were a retaliatory move by Apple following their recent court battle with Epic Games, where Apple was mandated to allow app developers in the U.S. to link to external payment options without paying Apple’s commission. However, Apple has confirmed that these screens were not introduced as a response to the court ruling.

RevenueCat CEO Jacob Eiting pointed out that these disclosures are specific to the EU and have been in place for a while. The low adoption rate of external purchases by EU developers may have contributed to the recent attention on these warning messages.

Apple had initially planned to update the message on the user-disclosure screens to read, “Transactions in this app are supported by the developer and not Apple.” However, the European Commission advised Apple to hold off on making any changes, leading to the continued display of the existing warning messages.

In April 2025, the EC fined Apple €500 million for noncompliance under the Digital Markets Act, and Apple is currently appealing the decision. Despite the ongoing legal battle and regulatory challenges, Apple remains committed to ensuring compliance with EU regulations while providing a secure and transparent user experience on the App Store. The Importance of Mental Health in Everyday Life

Mental health is a crucial aspect of our overall well-being that often gets overlooked in our fast-paced society. As we go about our daily lives, it’s easy to prioritize physical health and neglect our mental well-being. However, maintaining good mental health is just as important as taking care of our bodies.

Our mental health influences how we think, feel, and act. It affects our relationships, our work performance, and our ability to cope with stress and challenges. When our mental health is neglected, we may experience a range of negative consequences, including anxiety, depression, and other mental health disorders.

One of the key reasons why mental health is so important is its impact on our physical health. Research has shown that poor mental health can lead to a variety of physical health problems, such as heart disease, obesity, and chronic pain. By taking care of our mental health, we can reduce our risk of developing these conditions and improve our overall quality of life.

In addition to its impact on physical health, mental health also plays a crucial role in our day-to-day functioning. When we are mentally healthy, we are better able to focus, make decisions, and manage our emotions. This can have a positive effect on our relationships, our work performance, and our ability to handle stress.

Taking care of our mental health doesn’t have to be complicated. There are many simple steps we can take to improve our mental well-being, such as practicing self-care, getting enough sleep, and staying connected with others. It’s also important to seek help when needed, whether that means talking to a therapist, reaching out to a trusted friend, or seeking out community resources.

Overall, it’s essential to prioritize mental health in our everyday lives. By taking care of our mental well-being, we can improve our overall quality of life, reduce our risk of developing physical health problems, and better cope with the challenges that life throws our way. So let’s make mental health a priority and take the necessary steps to support our well-being.
