The Cook County Sheriff’s Police are taking steps to enhance public safety in the South Loop neighborhood by establishing a new satellite office in the area. Alderman Bill Conway of the 34th Ward made the announcement in his constituent newsletter, highlighting the need for additional law enforcement presence in an area that has faced public safety challenges for many years.

According to Alderman Conway, his office has been collaborating closely with the Sheriff’s Office and the Chicago Police Department’s 1st District to bolster their response efforts in the South Loop. The new satellite office will be located at 3 East Roosevelt, strategically positioned across the parking lot from Jewel-Osco.

A spokesperson for the sheriff’s office revealed that they anticipate the South Loop location to be up and running by June 1. This satellite office will be the sixth one established by the agency in the city, with existing substations in Austin, Auburn Gresham, River North, Water Tower Place, and One Chicago.

The decision to open a satellite office in the South Loop comes on the heels of the River North office launch in April 2022. The move aims to address the surge in shootings and robberies downtown, providing a visible law enforcement presence in the area and fostering relationships with local residents and businesses.

Officers assigned to the South Loop satellite office will work to strengthen partnerships with the community and support the efforts of the Chicago Police Department. This initiative is part of the sheriff’s office’s commitment to enhancing public safety and addressing the unique needs of different neighborhoods across the city.

The establishment of the new satellite office underscores the collaborative approach between law enforcement agencies and local officials to address public safety concerns in the South Loop. By increasing law enforcement presence and building relationships with the community, the sheriff’s police aim to create a safer and more secure environment for residents and businesses in the area.
