During an October 2023 interview with special counsel Robert Hur, former President Joe Biden struggled to recall key details of his political and personal life, including when his son passed away. The newly released audio of the interview captures Biden repeatedly losing his train of thought.
Responding to a question about where he would store documents related to his post-vice presidential work at the Penn Biden Center, his memoir “Promise Me, Dad,” and the Cancer Moonshot initiative, Biden, then 80, hesitated and said, “Well, um, I, I, I, I, I, I don’t know.”
Biden participated in the interviews with Hur and co-counsel Marc Krickbaum on October 8-9 as part of an investigation into his retention of national security papers from his time as Vice President and Senator.
Biden’s stunning decline during presidency
The Biden administration had previously refused to release the audio tapes of the interviews, citing protected “law enforcement materials.”
