Serial Offender Harold Gooding Arrested 134 Times and Counting

Harold Gooding, a career criminal once labeled as “Recidivist No. 1” by Mayor Adams, continues his streak of crime as his rap sheet now boasts a staggering 134 arrests, as reported by The Post.

Initially making headlines in August 2022 with 101 arrests, Gooding has added another 33 arrests to his record in the past 33 months.

Most recent arrests include shoplifting in Tribeca, along with charges of grand larceny and drug possession, adding to his history of armed robbery, burglary, and other offenses.

Despite multiple arrests and even serving time in Rikers, Gooding seems to resume his criminal activities shortly after release, showcasing a pattern of recidivism.

Notably, in June 2024, Gooding was apprehended for grand larceny after shoplifting 11 times from a Target store in Tribeca, leading to a 364-day sentence in Rikers.

However, his release in February was followed by four more arrests, including thefts from the same store in Tribeca and possession of illegal substances.

Law enforcement sources reveal that Gooding has struggled with addiction issues, emphasizing that his afflictions do not excuse his criminal behavior.

Despite repeated arrests, Gooding often receives lenient treatment, with some charges deemed non-bailable under current laws.

Gooding’s criminal history includes multiple prison stints for various offenses, indicating a longstanding pattern of criminal behavior.

Experts suggest that for individuals like Gooding, engaging in criminal activities may seem worth the risk within certain underground economies.

While efforts to address recidivism and repeat offenders continue, challenges persist in effectively deterring individuals like Gooding from committing further crimes.

Gooding’s mother, Delores Stroy, expressed disbelief at her son’s status as a repeat offender, highlighting the complexities of addressing long-standing criminal behavior.
