Deel Continues Legal Battle with Rippling Over Spy Allegations

The legal feud between Deel and Rippling has taken a new turn as Deel files a motion in the Irish court, requesting Rippling to hand over crucial information. This move comes after Rippling filed a lawsuit against Deel in March, accusing them of misappropriation of trade secrets, tortious interference, and unfair competition, all stemming from allegations of spying.

One of the key points of contention is the affidavit of former Rippling employee Keith O’Brien, who confessed in court to being a spy for Deel. Deel is now seeking unredacted versions of witness affidavits, including O’Brien’s, to further strengthen their case.

In response, Deel has countersued Rippling, attempting to have Rippling’s lawsuit dismissed on various grounds, including jurisdiction issues. Deel has also made allegations of their own, claiming that Rippling was also involved in espionage activities aimed at Deel.

Recently released letters reveal details from Rippling employee Vanessa Wu, who testified about the agreements made with O’Brien after his termination. Wu stated that Rippling paid O’Brien a termination fee in exchange for signing an agreement not to sue, and later agreed to cover his legal expenses in connection with the ongoing proceedings.

Deel is pushing for full unredacted versions of these agreements to be handed over by Rippling, highlighting the unusual nature of a terminated employee becoming a paid witness for the company. Both Deel and Rippling maintain their innocence while accusing each other of wrongdoing.

The court’s decision on the matter remains pending, but if more details from O’Brien’s testimony and the termination agreements are made public, it could shed further light on this complex legal battle.
