Tragic Shooting Near Fordham University Leaves One Dead and Another Injured

On Sunday evening, a senseless act of violence near Fordham University in the Bronx resulted in the death of 57-year-old Kevin Jennings, who was using a walker at the time, and the injury of a 34-year-old woman who was an innocent bystander. The incident occurred at East 188th Street and Marion Avenue, just a few blocks from the university, around 6:50 p.m.

Authorities are still investigating whether Jennings was targeted or simply caught in the crossfire, as he lived in the borough but miles away from the scene of the shooting. The woman, who was walking nearby, was also rushed to St. Barnabas Hospital with a gunshot wound to the leg and is currently in stable condition.

The gunman, described as wearing a black T-shirt and red pants, fled the scene following the shooting. Police are actively searching for the suspect.

Recent String of Gun Violence in New York City

This tragic incident is part of a disturbing trend of gun violence in New York City. In the past month alone, several innocent bystanders have been fatally shot in separate incidents.

In late April, Harlem bodega owner Excenia Mette, 61, was fatally shot in the head while checking on her grandson during a shooting. Shortly after, 28-year-old Daoud Marji was killed in the Bronx in another stray-bullet incident.

Just last week, 16-year-old Evette Jeffrey lost her life in a Bronx schoolyard as a result of escalating gang violence. Two teenagers have been arrested in connection with her death, including a 14-year-old alleged shooter and a 13-year-old boy accused of providing the gun.

These senseless acts of violence have left the community shaken and authorities scrambling to address the root causes of such tragedies.
