Wendy McMahon, the former CEO of CBS News, has announced her resignation, citing recent challenges faced by the network, including legal and political pressures from the Trump administration. In a farewell message to the staff, McMahon expressed that it was time for her to move on as the company and she did not see eye to eye on the way forward.

The resignation comes amidst Paramount, CBS’s parent company, dealing with a $20 billion lawsuit from President Donald Trump over a pre-election interview with Kamala Harris that he deemed damaging. Legal experts believe the lawsuit lacks a strong foundation and is likely protected by free speech laws. Paramount has agreed to mediation to ease tensions, especially as it seeks government approval for its merger with Skydance Media.

Wendy McMahon, an American television executive, has had a successful career in the industry. She graduated with honors from Louisiana State University and held various positions in different television stations before becoming the President of the ABC Owned Television Stations. In April 2021, McMahon took on the role of co-president of the merged CBS News and Stations division, which marked the first time local and national news operations were combined.

During her tenure, McMahon increased local news production at CBS Stations significantly. However, on May 19, 2023, she resigned as CBS News CEO amidst tensions with President Trump. McMahon has been recognized with several awards for her work in the industry and is married with a son.
