Daisy Ridley, known for her role in “Star Wars,” has been announced as the narrator for a new documentary series titled “We Were There.” This series will delve into the remarkable human stories from the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar. Co-produced by Noah Media Group and HBS, the 8-part series will feature 30-minute episodes focusing on key protagonists both on and off the field.
Each episode of “We Were There” will serve as a mini documentary, exploring the backstory of the lead characters and their journey to Qatar. Viewers will witness key matches through the eyes of players such as Lionel Scaloni, Emi Martinez, Julian Alvarez, and Gonzalo Montiel from the winning Argentina team. Other notable contributors include Didier Deschamps, Bruno Fernandes, and Giorgian De Arrascaeta.
In addition to player stories, the series will also follow fan experiences, from a Saudi Arabia supporter who walked across the desert to witness a match to a young player mascot who shared a personal moment with Kylian Mbappe.
Directed by Luke Mellows and produced by Tarun Thind and Richard Makinson, “We Were There” will be globally available, with Catherine Quantschnigg handling international sales. HBS CEO Dan Miodownik expressed excitement about sharing the personal stories of the Qatari people and international fans following the intense drama of the tournament.
