Health officials in New Jersey have issued a warning that thousands of people may have been exposed to measles after attending a sold-out Shakira concert at MetLife Stadium last week. An individual infected with the highly contagious virus attended the concert and potentially put attendees at risk.
The infected person, who was from out of state, was present at the venue from 7:30 p.m. until 1 a.m. the following morning. The stadium, with a capacity of 82,500, could have exposed a significant number of individuals to the virus, which poses a particular threat to children, potentially leading to severe complications and even death.

The Health Department emphasized the ease with which the virus spreads through the air, especially via coughing or sneezing. They advised individuals to watch for symptoms such as high fever, cough, runny nose, watery red eyes, and a rash that typically appears a few days after initial symptoms.
Health officials are urging residents to ensure they are up to date with their vaccinations and to seek medical attention if they suspect exposure or illness. Special precautions are being taken to prevent further spread of the virus.
The U.S. is currently experiencing a significant measles outbreak, with over 1,000 confirmed cases and multiple deaths reported in 31 states. The majority of cases involve unvaccinated individuals or those with unknown vaccination status.
