Washington:

Yaron Lischinsky and Sarah Milgrim, two Israeli embassy staffers, tragically lost their lives in a shooting outside a Jewish museum in Washington. The couple had plans for a romantic proposal in Jerusalem, which sadly will never come to fruition.

As the world mourns their untimely deaths, here is a glimpse into the lives of these young professionals.

Yaron Lischinsky

Yaron, 30, had been working as a researcher at the Israeli embassy in Washington since 2022.

Originally from Nuremberg, Germany, Yaron moved to Israel at the age of 16 and held dual nationality.

He pursued his education at Reichman University in Tel Aviv and Hebrew University in Jerusalem. Colleagues described him as a brilliant and curious student with aspirations of becoming a diplomat.

Yaron was fluent in German and had a keen interest in German-Israeli relations, aiming for peaceful coexistence in the Middle East.

He had recently bought a ring and was planning to propose to Sarah in Jerusalem next week.

Sarah Milgrim

Sarah, 26, was a part of the public diplomacy section at the embassy in Washington since 2023.

A talented choir member from Kansas City, Sarah held a degree in environmental science from the University of Kansas and a master’s degree in international studies and sustainable global development.

She was dedicated to promoting peace and understanding, as evidenced by her work with Tech2Peace in Israel, bringing together young Israelis and Palestinians for peacemaking seminars.

Her research focused on the role of friendships in the Israeli-Palestinian peacebuilding process.

Tragically, the Milgrim family only learned about the upcoming proposal from the Israeli ambassador following the devastating news of Sarah’s passing.

Both Yaron and Sarah’s lives were cut short, leaving behind dreams of a future together and a legacy of promoting peace and understanding in a conflicted world.
