Trump’s Executive Orders Signal a Nuclear Energy Revival
WASHINGTON, DC – In a bold move today, President Trump has signed a series of pivotal executive orders aimed at revitalizing scientific research in the United States, restoring faith in scientific integrity, and fast-tracking advanced nuclear technologies.
Under Trump’s guidance, the nation is poised for a renaissance in nuclear energy. After years of stagnation, where reactor construction was nearly nonexistent, these executive orders outline a clear path for nuclear innovation. They permit testing of reactor designs at Department of Energy (DOE) laboratories, facilitate construction on federal lands to bolster national and economic security, and streamline regulatory processes by mandating that the Nuclear Regulatory Commission expedite licensing decisions.
“For the past three decades, we halted the construction of nuclear reactors in America – that era is over. Today’s executive orders represent the most significant overhaul of nuclear regulation we’ve seen in decades. We are rebuilding a robust American nuclear industrial base, establishing a secure and independent domestic nuclear fuel supply chain, and positioning ourselves as global leaders in a future powered by American nuclear energy. These steps are crucial for our energy independence and our continued leadership in AI and other emerging technologies,” stated Michael Kratsios, Director of the White House Office of Science and Technology.
“America’s nuclear energy sector has long been bogged down by bureaucratic red tape and outdated policies, but thanks to President Trump, the American nuclear renaissance is finally underway,” remarked Energy Secretary Chris Wright. “With the rise of AI and the implementation of President Trump’s pro-manufacturing policies, we are witnessing the perfect timing for American civil nuclear energy to flourish. Nuclear energy offers a reliable option regardless of weather conditions, is versatile across various scales, and can be deployed anywhere. Today’s executive orders liberate our civil nuclear energy industry to meet this urgent demand.”
“President Trump’s executive actions expand our Energy Dominance agenda. As energy needs continue to rise, enhancing our existing nuclear fleet and investing in advanced technologies ensures we have a dependable energy source to power our homes and support President Trump’s manufacturing revival, ultimately strengthening our electric grid,” added Interior Secretary Doug Burgum.
In addition to energy initiatives, the President also enacted an executive order promoting what he terms Gold Standard Science to restore public confidence in the national scientific framework. This order defines Gold Standard Science and mandates that federal research agencies align their current programs with these fundamental principles. Furthermore, the Trump Administration is calling on American researchers and academic institutions to return to rigorous scientific methods by adhering to Gold Standard Science.
Gold Standard Science encompasses reproducibility, transparency, falsifiability, unbiased peer review, acknowledgment of errors and uncertainties, skepticism of assumptions, collaboration across disciplines, acceptance of negative results, and avoidance of conflicts of interest.
“By establishing Gold Standard Science as the foundation of our federal scientific efforts, President Trump is committed to rebuilding public trust in science. This executive order signals our recommitment to best scientific practices and empowers America’s researchers to achieve groundbreaking innovations. Gold Standard Science begins with the policies and programs of our esteemed federal research institutions and extends through partnerships across academia, industry, and philanthropic sectors,” concluded Director Kratsios.
