Vincent Martin (Cook County Sheriff’s Office)

Man Charged with Robbing FedEx Drivers Caught by GPS Monitoring Bracelet

A young man named Vincent Martin has been charged with robbing two FedEx drivers earlier this year, and prosecutors claim that his electronic monitoring bracelet’s GPS history proves his involvement in the crimes.

Martin, 22, has been under ankle monitor surveillance since being charged with illegal possession of a firearm in Evergreen Park in October, court records show.

Recent events have shown that his ankle monitor is providing valuable evidence in linking him to the robberies.

On January 23, a FedEx driver making a delivery in Jefferson Park was approached by Martin, who offered to sign for the package being delivered. When the driver refused, Martin allegedly threatened him with a gun and took off with a laptop from the package.

Another incident occurred on February 3, where a FedEx driver in Rogers Park was also robbed by Martin, who claimed to be armed and stole a package during a delivery.

Prosecutors pointed to Martin’s GPS location history, which placed him at the scene of the first robbery. Additionally, detectives identified Martin getting out of the getaway car used in the second robbery just days after the incident.

Both victims positively identified Martin in photo lineups, leading to Judge James Costello revoking Martin’s pretrial release and ordering his detention on two counts of aggravated robbery. The judge emphasized the necessity of keeping Martin in custody due to his “willingness to commit violent felonies while wearing a GPS monitor.”
