Grammy-nominated R&B singer Angie Stone, a former member of the all-female hip-hop trio The Sequence, is well-known for her hit song Wish I Didn’t Miss You. Hailing from South Carolina, Stone began singing at a young age in church choirs.

The Sequence, comprised of Angela Brown (Angie Stone) and her childhood friends Gwendolyn Chisolm and Cheryl Cook, made history as the first all-female hip-hop group to release an album under the iconic Sugar Hill Records label. Despite moderate commercial success, the group disbanded after releasing three records.

Stone launched her solo career in the early 2000s and achieved significant success with Wish I Didn’t Miss You, a popular dance floor anthem. Simultaneously, she ventured into acting, appearing in a variety of drama and reality TV shows and accumulating a dozen feature film credits. However, music remained Stone’s primary focus, with singles like No More Rain (In This Cloud) and Baby reaching the top of the Billboard R&B chart. Her albums Mahogany Soul (2001) and The Art Of Love & War (2007) both landed in the Billboard top 30.

Tragically, Angie Stone’s life was cut short in a fatal crash on an Alabama highway while en route to a concert. She passed away on March 1 at the age of 63. — APL/agencies
