An 18-year-old Venezuelan migrant and two juveniles are facing charges in connection with a robbery that took place in the Hyde Park neighborhood last week. The incident occurred on May 19, 2025, in the 5700 block of South Kimbark Avenue, where Roymer Barrios-Marquez and three juveniles allegedly confronted two boys, ages 13 and 16.

Barrios-Marquez reportedly demanded the victims to stop and hand over their belongings, indicating that he had a knife. Prosecutors mentioned that he had an object resembling a knife visible in his front pants pocket. The juveniles also made threatening gestures, with one even suggesting they had a weapon in their backpack.

The victims complied and gave up several items, including an iPhone, ski mask, Nike hoodie, silver necklace, ring, Air Jordan shoes, backpack, and jacket. Chicago police reported that Barrios-Marquez was found in possession of one victim’s phone at the time of his arrest. Both victims identified him and the two juveniles as participants in the robbery, while a fourth suspect managed to escape with most of the stolen items.

During the court hearing, Judge Deidre Dyer ordered Barrios-Marquez to be detained, describing the robbery as “opportunistic and egregious.” Barrios-Marquez now faces two counts of aggravated robbery.
