Firefighters successfully extinguished a fire at a commercial business in Southland. A Fire and Emergency NZ (Fenz) spokesman reported that the blaze originated in a piece of machinery known as a spreader at a site in Awarua, near Invercargill. The Invercargill and Kingswell fire crews responded promptly to the incident at 6.50pm today. Additional fire trucks and crews, along with a support unit, were called in to provide assistance.
Fortunately, everyone inside the building managed to evacuate safely, and there were no injuries reported. The fire crews worked diligently to contain the fire in the spreader and conducted thorough checks of the roof space to ensure complete extinguishment.
By 8pm, the emergency response was downscaled, and within 45 minutes, all crews had departed the scene after confirming that the fire had been completely put out. The building manager has taken over the site’s supervision in the aftermath of the incident.
