BY THE PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA

A PROCLAMATION

For over a century, the United States Border Patrol (USBP) has stood as a bulwark of our national security, embodying the spirit of vigilance against threats both foreign and domestic. Daily, these dedicated agents place their lives on the line to counter the influx of dangerous drugs, illegal arms, and criminal elements seeking to exploit our borders. It’s a sobering reality that many of these individuals arrive on American soil from prisons and mental institutions across the globe. Today, as we commemorate the anniversary of the USBP, we extend our gratitude to each agent for their valiant service and reaffirm our commitment to support their vital mission of safeguarding our nation.

For many years, the USBP has balanced on the precarious edge between order and chaos. However, the previous administration’s policies represented a profound misjudgment—one that invited a wave of unvetted immigrants, including violent offenders and gang members, from some of the most perilous regions worldwide. This influx over the past four years has not only overwhelmed our resources but has also severely impacted the morale of our dedicated USBP agents.

The turning point arrived on January 20, 2025. One of my initial actions as President was to declare a National Emergency at our southern border, empowering the Department of Defense to bolster federal responses to this crisis. I also took decisive steps to designate criminal cartels and organizations like Tren de Aragua and MS-13 as foreign terrorist entities—an essential measure to curtail their violent agendas. Moreover, I reinstated the construction of the border wall, brought back the Remain in Mexico policy, ended the controversial catch-and-release practice, and instituted the most extensive deportation operation in our nation’s history.

In just the first 100 days of my administration, we witnessed a staggering 95 percent reduction in daily border encounters, with illegal crossings plummeting by an astonishing 99.99 percent. March marked a historical low for border encounters, while fentanyl trafficking saw a 54 percent decrease compared to the same month the previous year. During this period, my administration successfully arrested over 150,000 individuals and deported more than 135,000 undocumented migrants. Under my leadership, USBP agents are receiving the resources and respect they have long deserved, and our work has only just begun.

As we celebrate the 101st anniversary of the USBP, we honor the brave men and women who devote their lives to defending our borders and upholding the rule of law, often in the face of extreme danger. We pay special tribute to those who have made the ultimate sacrifice while serving our nation. In their honor, and for the sake of their grieving families, we pledge to empower the USBP in their ongoing mission to protect the American homeland, both now and in the future.

NOW, THEREFORE, I, DONALD J. TRUMP, President of the United States of America, by the authority vested in me by the Constitution and the laws of the United States, do hereby proclaim May 28, 2025, as a day to celebrate the 101st Anniversary of the United States Border Patrol.

IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand this twenty-seventh day of May, in the year of our Lord two thousand twenty-five, and of the Independence of the United States of America the two hundred and forty-ninth.
