Peacock, the streaming service, has made the decision to cancel the show “Laid” after just one season. The series followed the story of Ruby Yao, played by Stephanie Hsu, who discovers that her past sexual partners are mysteriously dying in the order in which she slept with them. Alongside her best friend and roommate AJ, portrayed by Zosia Mamet, Ruby sets out to uncover the cause of these deaths and warn those who are still alive.

The cast of “Laid” included talented actors such as Michael Angarano, Tommy Martinez, Zosia Mamet, and a range of recurring and guest stars like Andre Hyland, Olivia Holt, and Simu Liu. The show was developed for Peacock by Nahnatchka Khan and Sally Bradford McKenna, who also served as executive producers. Other executive producers involved in the project were John Davis, John Fox, Jennifer Carreras, Marieke Hardy, Kirsty Fisher, and Liz Watts.

The series was actually based on an Australian show of the same name and was produced by All3Media International, with Universal Television as the studio. Despite the talented cast and crew involved in the production, the show unfortunately did not gain enough traction to warrant a renewal for a second season.

Fans of the show expressed disappointment upon hearing the news of its cancellation, as the unique premise and strong performances had garnered a dedicated following. However, with the competitive landscape of streaming services and the need for shows to attract a large audience to justify their continuation, “Laid” ultimately fell short in securing a long-term place on Peacock’s lineup.

As with any cancellation, there is always the possibility that the show may find a new home on another platform or be revived in the future. For now, viewers will have to cherish the one season of “Laid” and appreciate the creativity and talent that went into bringing the story to life.
