Introducing Hugging Face’s New Humanoid Robots: HopeJR and Reachy Mini
Hugging Face, the AI development platform, made headlines with the unveiling of two innovative humanoid robots – HopeJR and Reachy Mini. These open source robots mark a significant step forward in the company’s foray into the world of robotics.
HopeJR, a full-size humanoid robot, boasts an impressive 66 actuated degrees of freedom, allowing for a wide range of movements including walking and arm gestures. On the other hand, Reachy Mini, a compact desktop unit, offers functionalities such as head movement, speech capabilities, and AI app testing.
While Hugging Face has not provided an exact timeline for the availability of these robots, the company’s CEO, Clem Delangue, mentioned that the first units are expected to ship by the end of the year, with the waitlist currently open for interested parties.
Hugging Face has priced the HopeJR at around $3,000 per unit while the Reachy Mini is expected to cost between $250 to $300, depending on tariffs.
According to Delangue, the key feature of these robots is their open-source nature, allowing for easy assembly, customization, and transparency in understanding their functionalities. This move aims to democratize robotics and prevent monopolization by a few major players with proprietary systems.
The development of these robots was made possible through Hugging Face’s acquisition of Pollen Robotics, a humanoid robotics startup. This acquisition provided the necessary expertise and capabilities to bring HopeJR and Reachy Mini to life.
Hugging Face’s venture into robotics has been steadily progressing, with the launch of LeRobot in 2024, a platform offering open AI models, datasets, and tools for building robotic systems. In 2025, the company introduced an updated version of its programmable robotic arm, SO-101, in collaboration with The Robot Studio. Additionally, partnerships with AI startup Yaak have expanded training data on the LeRobot platform to include support for self-driving machines.
