Voice actor Toby Huss has been chosen to step into the role of Dale Gribble on the beloved animated series “King of the Hill” as it makes its return for Season 14. Huss, known for his previous work on the show voicing characters like Kahn Souphanousinphone and Cotton Hill, is taking over the role from Johnny Hardwick, who voiced Dale for the original 13 seasons from 1997 to 2009. Hardwick had recorded six episodes for the upcoming season before his passing in 2023.

The announcement of Huss’ casting was scheduled to be made at the ATX TV Festival in Austin, where a special reunion and revival panel for “King of the Hill” was set to take place. Joining Huss at the panel were co-creators and executive producers Mike Judge and Greg Daniels, executive producer Saladin Patterson, and series stars Pamela Adlon, Lauren Tom, and Huss himself.

In the upcoming season, Dale will continue to be the eccentric conspiracy theorist and unsuccessful exterminator fans have come to know and love. Huss, whose credits also include roles in “Seinfeld” and “Halt and Catch Fire,” brings a wealth of experience to the role. Apart from his work in television and film, Huss is also a talented visual artist, with his paintings recently showcased in Los Angeles and his photography published in a collection titled “American Sugargristle.”

The revival of “King of the Hill,” which marks the show’s Season 14, is set to premiere on Monday, August 4, with ten new episodes. The logline for the new season teases the return of Hank and Peggy Hill to a changed Arlen, Texas, as they reconnect with old friends like Dale, Boomhauer, and Bill. Meanwhile, their son Bobby is living his dream as a chef in Dallas, enjoying his 20s with his former classmates Connie, Joseph, and Chane.

The series is produced by 20th TV Animation, with executive producers such as Mike Judge, Greg Daniels, and Saladin Patterson at the helm. The show will also pay tribute to Johnny Hardwick in Episode 6, honoring his contributions to the series over the years.

Fans can look forward to seeing Huss breathe new life into the character of Dale Gribble when “King of the Hill” returns for its highly anticipated Season 14.
