Susan Nimoy, the widow of the legendary Leonard Nimoy, is set to make a surprise appearance on Zachary Quinto’s new NBC medical drama, “Brilliant Minds.” Quinto, who formed a close bond with the Nimoy family while portraying Spock in the recent “Star Trek” movies, invited Susan to guest star on the show.
Leonard Nimoy, who passed away in 2015, famously originated the role of Spock in the original “Star Trek” series. Quinto, who plays a hospital neurologist in “Brilliant Minds,” was inspired by the late Dr. Oliver Sacks, a neurologist and writer portrayed by Robin Williams in the film “Awakenings.”
In an interview for the upcoming episode of the “Just for Variety” podcast, Quinto expressed his deep connection to Leonard Nimoy and his wife Susan. He revealed that Susan, now 81 years old, was flown to Toronto from her home in Los Angeles to portray a character with hypersexuality on the show.
Describing Susan as vibrant, open, and curious, Quinto praised her performance on set. Despite her age, Susan has a background in acting, with credits dating back to 1963. She even appeared in an episode of “Star Trek: Deep Space Nine” as Admiral Rollman and wrote, directed, and starred in the short film “Eve” in 2018.
“Brilliant Minds” is set to premiere on NBC on September 23, showcasing a unique blend of medical drama and personal connections. With Susan Nimoy’s guest appearance adding an extra layer of excitement, fans of the show are eagerly anticipating the premiere.
The collaboration between Quinto and Susan Nimoy serves as a tribute to the enduring legacy of Leonard Nimoy and his iconic portrayal of Spock. As the show pays homage to the late Dr. Oliver Sacks, it also celebrates the talented individuals who bring these characters to life on screen.
