PARIS — Tragedy struck as two fans lost their lives and a police officer was seriously injured during the celebrations following Paris Saint-Germain’s historic Champions League victory. The French authorities confirmed the incidents on Sunday, marking a dark turn after the team’s triumph.

The celebrations turned sour in some areas, leading to the deaths of a 17-year-old boy in Dax and a man in Paris. Additionally, a police officer in Coutance suffered severe eye injuries after being struck by fireworks, putting him in an artificial coma.

While most of the celebrations were peaceful, there were instances of violence that resulted in numerous arrests. The team’s victory parade on the Champs-Elysees was marred by the tragic events, casting a shadow over their Champions League triumph.

Security measures were heightened in anticipation of post-match unrest, with a significant police presence deployed across key areas of Paris. Despite the unfortunate incidents, the team and its fans sought to honor the victory amidst the somber atmosphere that enveloped the city.

The joyous scenes at the Place de la Bastille contrasted with the darker events, as fans expressed their elation through songs, dances, and flares. The spirit of unity and celebration prevailed despite the challenges faced during the post-match revelry.

Despite the somber turn of events, the resilience and spirit of the fans shone through, underscoring the deep connection between the team and its supporters. As Paris Saint-Germain navigated the aftermath of their historic win, the city stood united in both triumph and tragedy, embodying the true essence of sportsmanship and solidarity.
