The upcoming military parade to commemorate the 250th anniversary of the U.S. Army on June 14, coinciding with President Donald Trump’s 79th birthday, may result in Washington, D.C. facing up to $16 million in street repairs, as confirmed by U.S. military officials.
Plans include the deployment of heavy tanks through various parts of the city. To minimize potential damage, steel plates measuring at least an inch thick will be strategically placed at key tank turning points along the parade route. Additionally, some tanks will be equipped with new track pads.
Mayor Muriel Bowser of D.C. has expressed her concerns regarding the possible impact of the tanks on the city’s streets. “These are primarily local streets, and if they become unusable, we will need to restore them to usability,” she stated last month.
Despite the concerns raised, President Trump has defended the event, citing its value. The parade is expected to feature the U.S. Army Golden Knights team parachuting in to present him with a flag. Trump has emphasized that the cost of the parade is insignificant compared to its significance.
