A chaotic scene unfolded at the University of Colorado football field when a shirtless driver went on a reckless joyride, crashing into multiple vehicles and nearly hitting bystanders before being apprehended by police. The driver, identified as Karl E. Haglund, 48, reportedly drove his blue pickup truck erratically, causing damage to cars, trees, and signs near Folsom Field in Boulder.

Eyewitnesses tried to intervene and stop Haglund from fleeing the scene after the crashes, but he managed to escape, narrowly avoiding hitting a pedestrian in the process. As he continued his rampage, he collided with another vehicle and more trees before eventually being cornered by law enforcement near the university’s stadium.

Haglund made a dramatic entrance onto the football field by ramming his truck through a gate and driving onto the turf, leaving behind tire tracks and a severely damaged vehicle. He eventually stopped near the 40-yard line, where he surrendered to police with his hands raised in the air. The University Police Department issued a warning on social media about the heavy police presence at Folsom Field and advised people to avoid the area.

After negotiations with Boulder Police, Haglund exited the truck and was taken into custody. He now faces a long list of charges, including criminal attempt vehicular assault, reckless endangerment, vehicular eluding, leaving the scene of a crash, and more. Despite the chaos, there was no threat to anyone on campus, and the investigation is ongoing.

Thankfully, no injuries were reported as a result of the incident, and the university assured that the damage to the field caused by Haglund’s truck would be repaired promptly. The Colorado Buffaloes, who have an upcoming away game, will not require the field until their next home game later in September. The university is working to ensure the safety and security of its campus community following this alarming incident.
