Arapahoe Basin Closing Soon, Copper Mountain Summer Hike Park Opening

Arapahoe Basin is set to close for the season either this coming Sunday or the following weekend. However, for some skiers and riders, the fun doesn’t stop there.

Looking ahead, Copper Mountain’s Summer Hike Park is gearing up to open on Friday. This terrain park will feature around a dozen rail features and will be open Fridays through Sundays until September. Day passes will be available for $25, while a season pass can be purchased for $199.

Arapahoe Basin’s famous pond-skimming season arrives this weekend. A-Basin officials expect to be open through Sunday, and possibly the following weekend as well.

The park at Copper Mountain is crafted by resort crews who push leftover snow from nearby slopes onto the remaining snow near the Center Village. Skiers and riders will have a short hike to access the park.

As for Arapahoe Basin, it recently halted daily operations but will reopen this weekend, Friday through Sunday. The closing date is tentatively set for June 8, with a potential extension based on weather and conditions.

“If we can remain open an additional weekend, we will, but that is all weather and conditions dependent. We need cool temps and gray skies to get us there,” said A-Basin spokeswoman Shayna Silverman.

The end-of-season festivities at Arapahoe Basin include the formation of Lake Reveal, a pool of snowmelt that emerges high on the mountain in June for pond-skimming fun.

Chief operating officer Alan Henceroth noted in a weekend blog post that the late appearance of the water is a positive sign of a deep and strong snowpack, which could potentially extend the season further into June.
