New York City police unions are expected to endorse incumbent Eric Adams in the upcoming general election, according to sources. The newly formed NYC Uniformed Forces Coalition 2025, comprising leaders of all city’s police unions, correction officers, and sanitation supervisors, met for the first time to strengthen their influence in the mayoral race.

The alliance plans to screen mayoral candidates in the summer and is likely to back Adams, who secured the top endorsement of the Police Benevolent Association in 2021. The union leaders have decided not to interfere in the Democratic primary, avoiding messy endorsements just three weeks before the election.

The coalition is not keen on meeting with frontrunner Andrew Cuomo, as many blame him for controversial criminal justice reforms. The union heads seem inclined towards supporting Adams, considering the lack of interest in other Democratic candidates who lean further left.

The NYC Uniformed Forces Coalition meeting was attended by over 60 representatives, including presidents of various police unions. Detective Endowment Association leader Scott Monroe called the coalition a “historic first step” towards influencing politics in favor of public safety.

The cop unions are expected to play a significant role in the upcoming governor’s race, with Governor Kathy Hochul seeking support from law enforcement. Adams, running on two independent lines, is also aiming to create a coalition of Democrats, independents, and Republicans for the general election.

Other candidates in the race include independent Jim Walden, GOP nominee Curtis Sliwa, and socialist Zohran Mamdani from the Working Families Party. Mamdani has been polling second after Cuomo in the Democratic nomination race.
