Federal Prosecutor Resigns Following Indictment of MS-13 Member
In a dramatic turn of events, a high-ranking federal prosecutor has stepped down in protest after a grand jury brought charges against Kilmar Abrego Garcia, an alleged member of the notorious MS-13 gang, for trafficking undocumented migrants.
Kilmar Abrego Garcia, a national from El Salvador, had been living illegally in Maryland. In 2019, an immigration judge ordered his removal from the United States due to his gang affiliations. In a surprising fallout from the indictment, Ben Schrader, the Chief of the Criminal Division at the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Middle District of Tennessee, announced his resignation. Schrader expressed concerns that the prosecution of Abrego Garcia was politically motivated.
