TEL AVIV, Israel — Israel announced on Saturday that it successfully retrieved the body of a Thai hostage who was abducted into Gaza during the October 7, 2023, attack. The military operation also resulted in the killing of at least 95 people in the past 24 hours, according to Gaza’s health ministry.

The prime minister’s office confirmed that Nattapong Pinta’s body was recovered in a special military mission. Pinta was taken from Kibbutz Nir Oz and tragically lost his life early in the conflict.

Thailand’s foreign ministry released a statement verifying the death of the last Thai hostage in Gaza, with the bodies of two others yet to be retrieved.

Two days prior to this development, the bodies of two Israeli-American hostages were also recovered. There are still 55 hostages remaining in Gaza, with over half of them confirmed dead by Israel.

Israel’s defense minister stated that Pinta’s body was retrieved from the Rafah area in southern Gaza. Pinta had traveled to Israel to work in agriculture.

The army identified the group responsible for his abduction and killing as the Mujahideen Brigades, the same group that targeted Shiri Bibas and her two young children. This group was also involved in the abduction of the two Israeli-American hostages whose bodies were found previously.

Thais constituted the largest group of foreigners held captive by Hamas militants. Many of them were agricultural workers residing in compounds on the outskirts of southern Israeli settlements that were overrun by Hamas militants. A total of 46 Thais lost their lives during the conflict.

Meanwhile, Hamas issued a warning regarding another hostage, Matan Zangauker, stating that any harm to him during a rescue attempt would be Israel’s responsibility.

Israel’s Ongoing Military Operations

Israel continued its military offensive in Gaza with multiple strikes reported in different areas resulting in civilian casualties.

In the Muwasi region in southern Gaza, four strikes were recorded. In northern Gaza, an airstrike hit an apartment complex, claiming the lives of seven individuals, including a mother and five children.

Reports indicated that some of the deceased were attempting to access food aid. Nasser hospital staff mentioned that six bodies brought in over the past 24 hours were individuals killed while on their way to receive food assistance.

Israel’s army clarified that despite warnings about the active combat zone during nighttime hours, individuals approached troops in a threatening manner, leading to warning shots being fired.

The distribution of aid in Gaza has become a critical issue, with Israel aiming to change the humanitarian aid system currently in place.

Israel has accused Hamas of misusing aid resources, leading to a need for a new aid distribution system. The situation has resulted in long lines at soup kitchens and increased dependence on humanitarian assistance in Gaza.

These developments come amid escalating tensions and a significant loss of life since the beginning of the conflict.

Casualty Figures and Humanitarian Crisis

Hamas-led militants caused significant casualties during the initial attack, resulting in a high number of abductions. The ongoing military campaign has led to widespread destruction and displacement of the Palestinian population.
