Content Warning: This article contains information about inappropriate behavior.

On Halloween night in 2024, two teenage girls had a frightening experience while out trick or treating in Christchurch. A man parked his car next to them and began engaging in inappropriate behavior in front of them.

The girls were walking around the neighborhood, knocking on doors for treats, when Ean Henry, 47, drove by and stopped near them at a traffic light. He then parked his car on Warrington St, where the girls passed by and noticed him sitting in the driver’s seat without pants, masturbating.

Feeling scared, the girls ran to a nearby driveway for safety and called the police. Henry admitted to the authorities that he had exposed himself to the teens intentionally.

During his sentencing at Christchurch District Court, Judge Murray Hunt expressed disbelief at Henry’s explanation for his actions. Despite Henry’s past convictions for similar behavior, he claimed it was a momentary lapse of control.

Recognizing the seriousness of the situation, Judge Hunt emphasized that the girls should not have been subjected to such behavior. However, he acknowledged that Henry has sought counseling to address his issues and has a supportive partner.

Henry was sentenced to three months of home detention as a consequence of his indecent actions.
